Kieran O'Brien

Equine Facilitator Offering
Therapeutic Services for Young Adults

About Me

Welcome! My name is Kieran O’Brien and horses have always been a big part of my life.

When working as a farmer I chose to gain a qualification as an Equine Assisted Facilitator as I could see first hand the benefits of bonding with my horses from a physical, emotional and mental
well-being perspective.

I am now using these learnings to help young adults who are suffering, and I am finding this gentle supportive approach is paying great dividends.
I am Garda Vetted to ensure the safety of all participants.

This method is open to everyone aged 12 and upwards, with possible exceptions for younger participants.

Other qualifications include a Diploma in Addiction Studies, Diploma in Life Coaching, and a Diploma in Horticulture.

There is no horse experience required and sessions take place at ground level.

What Does an Equine Assisted Learning Session Involve?

All sessions are 100% confidential and non-judgemental.  They take place at ground level and there is no horse experience required.

A session will typically last 1 hour and takes place once a week.   During this time participants will be with Kieran and the horses in a safe and peaceful environment.

Kieran will work with the participant to set personal goals and each week these goals will be reviewed to check progress and to reset goals if necessary.

Individual sessions are possible and can be beneficial, however it is recommended that sessions are booked as part of an eight week programme.

Research shows that horses are highly sensitive to human energy.  Their reactions can help us to gain significant personal insights in the moment, with guidance from a facilitator.

Sean's Story (name & picture changed to protect identity)

Sean's Journey Through Anxiety

Seán is a 15 year old young adult who was suffering from anxiety, was having difficulty concentrating in school, could not sleep and was in danger of burnout.

Seán’s parent got in touch and Sean chose to participate in our 8 week programme and immediately took to the safe and peaceful environment.  Sean had eight sessions with Kieran and the horses, he took a particular liking to Storm where a strong bond was formed.

We are happy to say that Seán has built confidence by bonding with Storm, is showing lesser signs of anxiety, is doing better in school and is experiencing much better sleep.

Seán’s words:  ‘Being with the horses was the only time I realised that I actually felt at ease.  In that moment, I realised that it we me was creating my own anxiety.  It was great to learn some tools to help myself and I have now learned to cope with every day life better’.

There's something peaceful about standing next to a horse in this environment. It slowed my mind like nothing else has.
